The Americas Directorate manages Malawi’s relations with countries in North, Central and South America, and the Caribbean, and intergovernmental bodies that are based in that part of the World. Malawi has two (2) diplomatic missions in the Americas namely Brasilia (Brazil) in South America and Washington DC in the United States of America (USA), and a Permanent Mission to the United Nations located in New York. The Directorate coordinates the implementation of the Malawi Foreign Policy and the Malawi Diaspora Engagement Policy which aim at maximizing Malawi national interest in the Americas region. Brazil and USA have resident diplomatic missions in Malawi. The World Bank and the United Nations (UN) also have resident missions in the country.

 

Malawi Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil

The Malawi Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil, mainly facilitates technical cooperation, and investment. The Mission is Malawi’s Gateway to South America. In this regard, the Mission serves as a base for Malawi’s management of bilateral relations with Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Aruba, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela, and all other Caribbean Islands on a non-residential basis.

 

Malawi Embassy in Washington DC, USA

The Malawi Embassy in Washington DC, USA, mainly facilitates development cooperation; trade, investment, and tourism cooperation; training; and consular matters. The Mission also serves as a base for Malawi’s management of bilateral relations with Bahamas, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico on a non-residential basis.

 

Malawi Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York, USA

The Malawi Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York, mainly facilitates multilateral diplomacy at United Nations. It supports Malawi’s participation in global negotiations aimed at shaping world affairs.
