The Central, East & West Africa (CEWA) Division is responsible for handling bilateral relations between Malawi and countries in the Central, East and West African regions. It handles thirty four (34) countries mostly located South of the Sahara belonging to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Economic Community of Central African States, East African Community and some from the SADC (Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), minus, Zambia, Egypt, Djibouti and Comoros. The Division is also responsible for multilateral Organisations based in the region to which Malawi is a party, namely, COMESA, the Tripartite Forum of SADC, COMESA and East Africa and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) whose Secretariat is based in Ghana. The Division is also handling multilateral affairs from United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa, and the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and United Nations Habitat based in Nairobi, Kenya.
