The Bilateral Division fosters Malawi bilateral interest with thirty-five (35) countries in the Americas region. It further coordinates Diaspora matters in the region. The Division manages affairs of the two Malawi missions in Washington DC and Brasilia. Aside from the 2 missions, the Division may gain a mission in Ottawa, Canada, if government implements a recommendation to re-open the mission which operated from 1978 to 2005 (Malawi retains a few properties in Ottawa). Malawi maintains strong relations with Brazil, Canada and the United States of America (USA), but only the USA has a resident mission in Malawi.
Malawi Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil The Malawi Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil, mainly facilitates technical cooperation, and investment. The Mission is Malawi’s Gateway to South America. In this regard, the Mission serves as a base for Malawi’s management of bilateral relations with Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Aruba, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela, and all other Caribbean Islands on a non-residential basis.
Malawi Embassy in Washington DC, USA The Malawi Embassy in Washington DC, USA, mainly facilitates development cooperation; trade, investment, and tourism cooperation; training; and consular matters. The Mission also serves as a base for Malawi’s management of bilateral relations with Bahamas, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico on a non-residential basis.
