The Middle East & North Africa Division (MENA) manages and coordinates Malawi’s bilateral relations with countries within the MENA region, with a total of 21 states that are divided into three sub-regions: North Africa – 7 countries; Middle East – 7 countries; and Arabian Peninsula – 8 countries. The Division also facilitates Malawi’s participation in the African Union (AU) which has all 55 countries on the African continent as its member states. The AU aims at promoting collective continental development, including through peace and security promotion on the continent, and amplifying the African voice in global international cooperation. The Division’s responsibilities and functions specifically focus on peace and security; governance and human rights; regional integration and economic recovery; sustainable development; sovereignty and territorial integrity; and environmental management and climate change. The Division manages the following Malawi Missions: Cairo; multilateral part of the AU in Addis Ababa; Kuwait City, Dubai (Consulate), and Doha.
