Honourable Nancy Tembo, M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, led a Malawi delegation to the Extraordinary Session of the SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ Troika
Honourable Nancy Tembo, M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, led a Malawi delegation to the Extraordinary Session of the SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ Troika (MCO) Plus Personnel Contributing Countries (PCC’s) and Mozambique, which was held in Pretoria, Republic of South Africa, on 3rd April, 2022. The Malawi delegation included the Deputy Minister of Defense, Honourable Harry Mkandawire, and other senior government officials.
The objective of the MCO Plus meeting was to review the progress made by the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) and map the way forward for the Mission on the ground based on the prevailing conditions. As a regional response to support Mozambique in combating terrorism and other acts of violent extremism in the country, SAMIM has since its deployment in 2021 made significant gains in stabilizing the security environment in the Cabo Delgado province together with Mozambican security agencies. To date, this progress has permitted the Government of the Republic of Mozambique to start reconstructing infrastructure and restoring services that were damaged or disrupted by the terrorists.
The MCO meeting was preceded by the meeting of the Standing Committee of Senior Officials and the Interstate Defense and Security Committee (ISDSC) at the same venue on 2nd April, 2022.
Her Excellency Ms. Margaret Kamoto, Malawi's Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), presented her Letters of Credence to His Excellency Mr. Felix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the DRC in Kinshasa
