Honourable Nancy Tembo, M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, attending South Africa's Freedom Day Reception as Guest of Honour at the South African High Commissioner's Residence, on 18th May, 2023. In her remarks, Honourable Tembo noted the significance of Freedom Day which falls on 27th April, and commemorates the birth of a democratic which joined the community of independent democratic states in southern Africa. She noted that Malawi and South Africa shared a common commitment towards promoting peace and security as demonstrated by the deployment by both countries of troops to Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
In her remarks, Her Excellency Yvette Myakayaka-Manzini, South African High Commissioner to Malawi, extended a condolence message to the Government and people of Malawi over the loss of life due to the devastation caused by Cyclone Freddy. She indicated that South Africa was carrying out reforms to ensure better public service delivery which would support economic growth. South Africa was committed to promoting her relations with Malawi through the Joint Commission for Cooperation.
