Honourable Nancy Tembo, M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, bidding farewell to His Excellency Mr Liu Hongyang, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Malawi

 

Honourable Nancy Tembo, M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, bidding farewell to His Excellency Mr Liu Hongyang, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Malawi, on 23rd March, 2022, at the end of his tour of duty. During discussions, Honourable Tembo applauded the Chinese envoy for his great contribution towards strengthening the Malawi-China bilateral relations since his appointment in August, 2018. 

During his tenure, Malawi has benefitted from China in various ways including through the  construction of five community technical colleges pegged at US$15million; the provision of a grant of US$30million for small scale projects which include the construction of a computerised tomography (CT) scan room at Mzuzu Central Hospital; the provision of a concessional loan to the Government of Malawi amounting to US$67.7million for the Lilongwe Water Programme; and the provision of a grant of $50million  for the construction of the Lilongwe Dual Carriage way.

Honourable Tembo pledged Malawi's continued collaboration with the Government of the People's Republic of China at both bilateral and multilateral levels on issues of shared interests. She concluded by wishing the Ambassador all the best in his future assignments.
