The Multilateral Affairs Division is responsible for Malawi’s relations with intergovernmental organizations based in Europe, and the promotion of the global disarmament and non-proliferation agenda. Some of the Europe-based international organizations include; The Commonwealth; Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights; the World Trade Organization (WTO); the Organisation of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS); the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO); European Union (EU); the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); the Global Forum for Migration and Development (GFMD), among others.
The Division is also managing Malawi’s tenure as a member of the UN Human Rights Council (2021-2023) through our mission in Geneva.
The Division also supported Malawi’s participation at the UNFCCC CoP26 which took place in Glasgow, Scotland.
The Division also coordinates Malawi’s disarmament and non-proliferation activities which are in line with the global agenda. It collaborates with international institutions such as the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW); the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC); the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA); the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Centers of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE), among others.
