Her Excellency Dr. Naomi Ngwira, Ambassador of the Republic of Malawi to the Kingdom of Belgium and European Union, presenting Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium.
On Tuesday, 22nd February, 2022, Her Excellency Dr. Naomi Ngwira, Ambassador of the Republic of Malawi to the Kingdom of Belgium and European Union, presented her Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium. After receiving the Letters of Credence, His Majesty the King held private discussions with Ambassador Dr. Ngwira on issues of bilateral interest to Malawi and Belgium.
During the discussions with His Majesty the King, Ambassador Ngwira delivered a message of goodwill to the King, the Government and the People of Belgium from His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi. The Ambassador also conveyed His Excellency Dr. Chakwera’s desire to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly nations.
The discussions touched on Malawi’s vision of turning into a middle-income economy by the year 2030 through, among other initiatives, diversification of the economy from tobacco dependent to other to other cash crops; development of mining sector; investment in sustainable renewable energy; and cooperation in health and education. The Malawi Ambassador also appraised the King of Belgium on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Malawi’s economy and the devastating impact of Cyclone Ana that has affected nearly a million people, and destroyed critical social and economic infrastructure including roads and hydro power station. She invited the Government of Belgium to support Malawi, including through facilitating the entry of more Malawi products into European markets.
