The Diaspora Affairs Unit, with support of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) has embarked on a project to formulate the National Diaspora Engagement Policy. The Unit held the first multi-sectoral brainstorming workshop on 3rd October, 2014 at the Sunbird Capital in Lilongwe. It is expected that by August or September next year, the Unit will launch the Policy.

The Unit in partnership with the International organisation for Migration (IOM), will also soon be working on developing a national strategic framework for the implementation of the Engagement Programme. The Unit intends to conduct series of awareness activities and ultimately hold a Homecoming Summit for the Diasporas by 2016. This will be an opportunity for the Diasporas to discuss key development issues with the Government.
